TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI

Area Head– Printmaking          2009 - Present

Manage the daily use of the printmaking area along with the purchasing of materials for each semester.  Maintain the equipment and consumables in the printmaking area. Direct the graduate assistant in their duties.  Determine curriculum and class structure for each printmaking class.



Assistant Professor – Beginning Screen Printing          2009 - Present

Introductory printmaking class that focuses on getting comfortable with concepts of printmaking through the process of screen printing.  Some of the processes covered are color reductions, photo, and monoprinting.  Creating conceptual work is also a major component to the course


Assistant Professor – Beginning Lithography           2009 - Present

Introductory printmaking class that focuses on getting comfortable with concepts of printmaking through the process of lithography printing.  Some of the processes covered are color stone lithography, plate lithography, reductions, color, and multi-plate.  Creating conceptual work is also a major component to the course.


Assistant Professor – Beginning Intaglio and Relief          2009 - Present

Introductory printmaking class that focuses on getting comfortable with concepts of printmaking through the process of intaglio and relief printing.  Some of the processes covered are linoleum relief, reduction relief, dry point, line etch, hard ground, soft ground and multi-plate intaglio.  Creating conceptual work is also a major component to the course


Assistant Professor – Monoprinting/ Monotyping          2009 - Present

Introductory printmaking class that focuses on utilizes the repeatable matrix of printmaking methods to create unique prints.  Multiple processes are covered and combined.


Assistant Professor – Intermediate Printmaking          2009 - Present

Intermediate printmaking class that focuses on gaining a more complex understanding of the printmaking processes.  The processes covered in the course vary by semester and student needs.  The course emphasizes creating conceptual work, using multiple processes and monoprinting.


Assistant Professor – Advanced Printmaking          2009 - Present

Advanced printmaking class that focuses on experimenting with concepts of printmaking.  The processes covered in the class are determined by the students needs.  The course emphasizes conceptual work, a writing component, and using multiple processes.


Assistant Professor – Graduate Printmaking          2009 - Present

Advanced printmaking class that focuses on creating conceptual work with the printmaking processes.  Professional development, theory and writing are contributing factors along with studio work.

This class focuses on translating reality into two-dimensions.  The subjects covered concentrate on developing observational and representational skills.  Value, raking light, texture, organizational line, contour, atmospheric perspective and one point perspective are the main areas discussed.


Assistant Adjunct Instructor – Intro to Printmaking          2008 - 2009

Students are introduced to concepts of printmaking and printmaking processes.  The class is intended to give a brief introduction to different print mediums including etching, monotyping and screen printing.  The students are expected to discuss work on a formal and conceptual level.


Assistant Adjunct Instructor – Two Dimensional Design          2008 - 2009

Students are introduced to the core concepts of elements and principles of design.  The class introduces students to a variety of media and techniques.  The students are expected to hone their formal skills as they relate to a variety of subjects including fine art, advertising, and film.


Assistant Adjunct Instructor – Drawing Concepts          2008 - 2009

Students develop conceptual and formal skills while exploring new media.  The class relies heavily on art historical references to different approaches regarding meaning.  The students are encouraged to develop personal approaches towards narrative, context, and concepts.

Adjunct Instructor of Record – Beginning Figure Drawing          2009 -2009

This class introduces concepts of drawing and how it relates to the figure.  Students are taught techniques and encouraged to experiment with a variety of drawing methods.  Students gain a more complex understanding of human anatomy while working from a model.


Adjunct Instructor of Record – Advanced Screen printing          2007 - 2009

This class continues to teach processes relevant to screen print.  Although there is a photo and CMYK project, students are encouraged to develop content and experiment with the media.  Students are also required to write artist statements and give a presentation on their work and the artists that inform their work.


Printmaking Review Committee          2007 – 2009

Review and evaluate mid-point, and exit reviews of graduate students with printmaking and other visual arts faculty.

Printmaking Technician -    2005 - 2006

Coordinated the packing up and movement of the printmaking studio from one building on campus to another.  I also aided in the design of the new print studio, and prepared the space for the printmaking program.  My other main responsibilities were the routine maintenance of the print shop, refilling solvents, and managing shop clean-up.

This class continues to push the student’s ability to translate and mimic reality while allowing more room for interpretation, experimentation and conceptualization.  I was responsible for the interpretation of the lecture, running of the lab portion of the class, and grading.
